Health Ministry to educate traders and exporters on ’ripening’

The Ministry of Health has decided to educate traders and exporters on ripening fruit in a health safe manner. The Ministry says that currently as recommended by the food act, the gaseous chemical Ethereal is used to ripen fruit.

However, the Ministry points out that the use of the chemical Carbide is also widespread.

The Ministry says that this has consequences for the physical health of those who consume such fruit.

Therefore, the Ministry stated that a programme to educate farmers on the proper health safe method to ripen fruit will be conducted for farmers and exporters.
