Sri Pada vote today

The vote to elect the incumbent for the temple at Sri Pada will be held today (25th). The vote is taken to fill the vacancy occurred when Ven. Handapangoda Wimal Thera, who was the incumbent passed away.

Nominations have been presented by five Bhikkus for the vacancy and the vote will be held at the Provincial Council auditorium in Ratnapura New town at 2.00 p.m. today.

 

307 Bhikkus who are permanent residents of Ratnapura District and have been ordained in ‘Siyam Maha Nikaya of Malwatta Chapter are eligible to vote. However, political parties are attempting to get one of their supporters appointed to the post. It is reported that Bhikkus who are eligible to vote are receiving a lot of attention from politicians at the moment.
